BELECTRIC Secures Major Solar Portfolio in the United Kingdom
The expansion of renewable energy infrastructure across Europe continues to gain momentum, with large-scale solar projects playing an increasingly important role in the transition to a low-carbon energy system. In the United Kingdom, BELECTRIC, a member of the Elevion Group, has secured a significant contract to deliver a solar portfolio with a total capacity of nearly 210 megawatts peak (MWp) for Severn Trent Green Power (STGP).
The project comprises four photovoltaic plants located in Warwickshire, Shropshire, Yorkshire and North Yorkshire. Construction is scheduled to begin in phases from late March 2026, with the first three sites entering development shortly thereafter and the fourth following later in the year. Once completed, the solar parks are expected to become operational between August 2027 and January 2028.
For Severn Trent Green Power, the projects represent an important milestone. As the company continues to diversify its renewable energy portfolio – which already generates 335 GWh of energy annually – the new solar parks will add approximately 180 GWh of additional clean electricity capacity. This step marks STGP’s entry into utility-scale solar and supports both regional energy resilience and national decarbonisation targets.
Engineering Complex Solar Projects at Scale
BELECTRIC will act as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor across all four sites, applying its long-standing expertise in the development and delivery of large-scale solar installations. The projects present a number of engineering challenges, including overhead power lines and gas pipelines crossing the project areas, requiring tailored design solutions for each location.
Environmental considerations also play an important role in project development. At selected sites, biodiversity measures such as designated skylark protection areas will be implemented, reflecting a broader commitment to environmentally responsible project delivery.
Alongside technical execution, the development process emphasises engagement with local communities. A structured communication programme supports transparent dialogue with stakeholders and helps ensure that construction activities are aligned with regional needs.
A Strategic Partnership for Renewable Growth
The collaboration between BELECTRIC and Severn Trent Green Power highlights the growing importance of partnerships in delivering large-scale renewable energy projects. For STGP, the solar portfolio represents a strategic step beyond its established focus on energy generation from food waste, strengthening its position within the UK’s evolving renewable energy landscape.
For BELECTRIC, the project further reinforces its role as a leading EPC provider in Europe’s solar sector. Supported by the strong European platform of the Elevion Group, the company continues to deliver complex projects reliably and at scale.
Reflecting on the significance of the collaboration, Dr Thorsten Blanke, CEO of BELECTRIC, stated: “We are proud to be partnering with Severn Trent Green Power on this significant portfolio of solar projects. Supported by the strong European platform of the Elevion Group, our team continues to demonstrate its capability to deliver large-scale solar power plants under complex conditions.”
Advancing Renewable Energy in the United Kingdom
As construction progresses, the four solar parks will contribute to expanding clean energy capacity in the United Kingdom and demonstrate the growing role of large-scale photovoltaic projects in supporting a resilient and sustainable energy system.
